My Students
My ESOL students' textbooks come with a CD full of great listening exercises, but without audio equipment, we don't have any way to complete them in class. With portable CD players and headphones, we can meet English language listening standards in class!
My ESOL students come from a variety of countries throughout Asia, the Middle East, and Africa and now attend a high poverty school in an urban area.
They are incredibly talented, and determined to learn English as quickly as possible. Completing listening exercises is essential to learning English, and unfortunately many of my students don't have access to computers or audio equipment at home.
My Project
Our Pennsylvania state standards require our students to complete a variety of listening exercises, but our classroom is without listening equipment. With audio equipment in our classroom, we would be able to complete a variety of listening tasks. Students would then also be able to come into the room during free periods or after school to work independently on listening exercises that correspond to the text we use.
English language learners learn in a variety of ways.
Having simple audio equipment in our room will make a huge impact on their achievement. Not only will they be able to complete listening exercises in class, but I will also be able to offer them additional support by having books or lessons on tape to support their learning across content areas.
