Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Listening to stories on tape is a great way of developing reading skills, especially in younger readers. I am a second grade teacher in a low income school in Harlem, New York and would like to enhance my students reading experiences through the use of books on tape. My students love going to the listening center. They love hearing books on tape and writing their responses. However, my collection of books on tapes is not sufficient. I would like to provide my students with a wider array of stories on tape. I have students that are proficient readers and students that are just learning to read. It would be wonderful to enhance their reading experiences by providing them with books that are at their reading level. In addition, I would like to provide them with nonfiction books on tape. These books will show the importance of nonfiction books and support their nonfiction learning. The listening center is a wonderful tool for enhancing learning experiences, but it needs the proper materials to meet my students' needs. With these listening sets I think that I will begin to meet my students' needs and wants as readers and writers. Your donation would definitely help me differentiate for my students. Thank you!
