This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classroom is literacy based and an important component is listening to books read aloud. Many students struggle reading an informational text. Having books on CD will open that informative world to them and may spark the interest to choose these types of books for independent reading!

We are a small urban school with a community of inquisitive learners.

They like to communicate and work together. They strive for authentic learning experiences. They are appreciative for a happy classroom community where they can grow. Our school offers our students all of those opportunities to the best that we can.

My Project

In our classroom, we have a very involved literacy block. The students own their learning. They work on the "Daily 5", while I teach small reading groups, so that they can improve their reading skills and strategies. One component is listening to reading. The boys and girls would be able to listen to a text on CD which will help their fluency, word recognition, and comprehension. With the book choices made, they will learn wonderful factual information that will broaden their schema.

Right now the students are listening to some selections on a computer.

However, they do not have the text to follow along with and only two students can do this at a time. This project will allow four students to listen to a text and follow along at the same time. The book selections will create an interest in non-fiction texts. Hopefully, they will also spark a desire to choose informational text when reading independently.
