Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever sat in a lecture hall "nodding off" in spite of yourself? As an adult it can be hard to focus. A first grader in a system of teach, test, and analyze data has an even harder challenge!
The fantastic first graders at our school are working hard in spite of the unrealistic "No Child Left Behind" pressure that can take the fun out of school.
Our school is a low-income, high-risk school in a small community. However, our teachers and students never give up!
My Project
For example, my students absolutely love singing! They want songs throughout the day and regularly break into song. Requested in this project are literature-rich, skill-based songs on compact discs and a recorder/player. These supplies will combine a love of singing and healthy body movement for a total learning experience that will stir us up! The students will have fun, be spontaneous, and as a result: learn! The children are especially excited about the recorder/player because "We will be able to make our own books for each other to listen to!"
Please help us.
We want to sing and move and write stories to share with our friends. Betty Deramus defined hero in this way; "A hero is simply someone who rises above his own human weaknesses, for an hour, a day, a year, to do something stirring." Be our hero and help us to learn in the ways we choose!
