I am in my 25th year of teaching 8th grade. I teach ELA, Reading, and Creative Writing. My language arts classes are honors, but even within honors there is still a big range of abilities. I also teach reading which is co-taught with special education. My co-teacher is fabulous at motivating our students. Finally, I teach creative writing which is a mix class of 8th and 9th graders. I love teaching creative writing because students not only are getting better at writing, but they are also learning about who they are.
I absolutely love my students.
They are my life-force; they give me the energy to enjoy life to the fullest. Everything I do is for them. I never stop learning or researching new ideas or ways to present things to them. I hope they leave my class knowing their own self-worth and beauty, how to think critically, and how to question ideas respectfully. Most importantly, I want them to approach the world with kindness and compassion.
My Project
Please help my students better understand me as we navigate through this pandemic. Wearing masks muffles our voices and I need a new sound system in my room to make hearing accessible to all my students.
I am also requesting a new set of books told from a new perspective that most of my students are not familiar with.
It is imperative in this day and age that students read about people who have different experiences and points of view to broaden and enrich their own lives.
We will combine both my purchases by reading this book aloud in class, and will a new sound system, students will also be able to hear the book which will increase their listening comprehension.
