This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is Pre-K through Sixth grade with almost 200 students. Despite varied ability levels, my students are from an area of dire need. They reside in a community that is poverty stricken and homes in which parents work multiple jobs to make ends meet and survive by way of governmental assistance. 100% of the students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch due to their economic standings. More specifically my four year olds have a desire to be academic scholars despite their background and living conditions. Learning's a requirement to better their lives.
My Project
Copy paper and copies are limited in the school, therefore these supplies can be used to save the world and keep students active at the same time. Worksheets and paper are necessary for my students. My students are assigned homework Monday through Thursday. Paper is needed because they do not have books. Due to the age of my students anchor charts with pictures are a must. Every skill introduced is accompanied by a colorful anchor chart. My students enjoy using expo markers on small dry erase boards during phonics instruction. Using expo markers are often viewed as a reward. Headphones are needed daily for computer time. Students need headphones in order to block out classmates and focus on their work. Students also need headphones to take monthly assessments.
