I teach in a Title I school. The majority of students at my school get free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students come to kindergarten without preschool experience. Therefore, we start at the beginning, teaching basic letter identification, and by the end of kindergarten they are reading!
My students have hard lives outside of school, but the minute they step into my classroom they know that they are loved.
They know they are there to learn and become the successful individuals that they can be.
My Project
We love using our boombox to listen to books on CD and music while we work. The boombox we currently have has broken and we sure are missing it! A new boombox and headphones would allow us to use our small group book sets to have a new listening station where students could read fiction and nonfiction books that they are interested in. We have the books, now we just need the new boombox and a few headphones to make it work. The boombox is another way to provide music to students while they work to increase productivity. I know I work better with some background music, and have found that many of my students do too.
