My students need a listening center to be able to access and comprehend various types of fiction and non-fiction texts so that they can be 3rd grade-ready readers by the end of this year!

My Students

The students I have the pleasure to teach are some of the most passionate, sweetest, exuberant kids you will ever meet! Many of them are also students who have faced many hardships in life and will continue to face many hardships. Our school is a Title 1 school serving low-income students from all over the city of Nashville, TN. Many students come to our school without ever having been in a Pre-K program of any type. Therefore, some of them are often lacking in skills that perhaps their same-aged, higher income peers have already mastered. Our school is determined to make sure that by the time our students leave our school in 8th grade they are caught up and on the path to college success. College and life success depends on creating students who are life-long learners and lovers of gaining knowledge!

I truly hope that in my classroom all of my students feel the excitement that comes from gaining knowledge and discovering something new every day!

My Project

I am requesting a listening center, a portable CD player, and some word work centers to start our classroom collection. Our school has many books with CDS sets; however, none of the classrooms have listening centers provided. Many students that will be coming to me next year will not be on-grade level readers- however, that should not stop them from being able to access high-quality books at their interest and grade level. The portable CD player will be especially helpful for any students with a reading disability. These students will be able to take home books on CD and be able to read at home without causing themselves or their parents stress when tackling a book above their reading level. The word work listening centers will help us as we continue our quest to grow our vocabularies.

The Listening Center and portable CD player will help my students become more fluent readers and continue their ability to love and enjoy books.

My students need to have as many opportunities as possible to have texts in their hands so that they can become life-long readers. Being able to listen and read along will go a long way to making sure that this is true!
