This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My family of students are nestled in a small, yet diverse 2nd grade class in Northeast Iowa. These students are my heart and I want the best for them. Giving them the best "tools" for learning will allow me to show them the world!

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched-they must be felt with the heart.

Working with these 2nd graders gives me daily JOY! Help me give them the same!

My Project

By providing students a space where there is flexible, comfortable seating with Floor Seats, and a listening center CD Player & headphones that meets the needs of a variety of groupings, students have the ability and will enjoy accessing a variety of fiction and nonfiction literature.

When students listen to quality literature in a safe learning environment, they understand the message, think critically about the content, use imagination, and make connections-that is what is at the heart of being a reader and why kids learn to love books.

Listening to reading has many benefits to non-readers, struggling readers, second-language learners, as well as confident readers. Some of these benefits include: modeling good interpretive reading, practicing critical listening skills, highlighting humor in books, introducing new genres to students that might not otherwise consider them, introducing new vocabulary or unfamiliar words or dialects, providing a read-aloud model, and

recapturing "the essence and the delights of hearing stories beautifully told by extraordinarily talented storytellers."
