My Students

The Frog-tastic Firsties love to listen to and read stories! However, our 15 year-old listening center has passed on. We need a new listening center so we can get back to reading our stories.

We live in a small neighborhood in a big city.

Our school has over 1,000 students. There are 32 students in our Frog-tastic classroom. Eight different languages are spoken in our classroom. We love exploring and learning new things. We also love learning to read. It's our favorite thing to do!

My Project

We use our listening center every day! There is not a lot of room in our classroom (it's small and there are 32 of us!), so the wireless earphones will allow us to listen to a story anywhere in the room. Luckily, our teacher has worked very hard to collect many different books on tape and CD. Usually, we listen to a story at the listening center. After, we choose an activity to do to show we understood the story. Sometimes, we make up a play and perform it for the rest of the class. Sometimes, we make a book. Other times, we design an art project based on the book. There are so many opportunities for learning!

Students learning how to read need many different opportunities to listen to fluent reading.

The listening center offers that perfect opportunity. Unfortunately, our listening center broke (by no fault of the students). They are very sad. They would love to have another so that they can get back to their learning. There are quite a few students in my class with special needs. The listening center was especially important because they used it as part of their educational plan.
