There are so many words that I can use to describe the unique bunch of rock stars I am privileged to spend seven hours of my day with, but I will keep it short and simple. I teach 1st grade. The students in my class all have different learning styles along with unique behavioral identities.
My school is on the Southside of Chicago in the historical Bronzeville neighborhood.
Part of this neighborhood is going through a Chicago neighborhood renewal process while the other half is still of low income and at times dangerous surroundings. The majority of my kiddos are from the low-income half. However, they come to school with excitement, ambition, and eagerness to learn and better themselves. I ask my students every day what is their purpose for coming to school today. At first, they didn't have the tools to answer this question, but now (due to modeling to them how to build a purpose for learning and school), they proudly say, "to learn and become a better learner." So as their teacher, it is my job and passion to help them experience every opportunity, reach every goal, and pass every test presented.
I am requesting headphones for my student to use while using their learning devices. My student listen to their Ipads to complete assignment online. Unfortunately, many of them did not bring their own headphones to school. During small groups they use their Ipads to listen to stories and follow assignments audio directions. However, this causes for too much noise to occur while I am try to focus on small groups. I have to constantly tell them to turn it down even though that means they may not be able to hear their assignment. If we had a class set, than the student who do not have headphones will have access to them to borrow.
