My students need a listening center so they can listen to books every day. Our classroom also needs a "mailbox" (24 small shelves) to help us with organization.

My Students

We are a small, rural county school of 55 kids, grades Pre-K to 12. Some of our classes are split classes with more than one grade. This coming school year, I will be teaching a first/second grade split class.

Most of our students receive free breakfast and lunch each day.

The school's town has only about 200 people, yet some families commute to attend our school because of our small class sizes. We have a dedicated staff that cares about all of our students. There will be about 15 students who will benefit from this project.

My Project

Our classroom needs a listening center where multiple students can listen to stories at one time. We currently have just an old CD player (that's not working the best) with one set of headphones. The new listening center we're asking for will allow a group of six kids to all hear the same story and everything will stay organized in the trunk it comes with.

I try to expose my students to as many books as possible throughout the school year.

I want my students to listen to a book a day, all year. This new listening center will help us accomplish this. While listening to books, this frees me up to work with other students in reading groups.

We are also requesting a mailbox shelf for organization purposes in the classroom. I will use it to hold upcoming CDs/books as well as other things needed in the classroom.
