This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Read me a story, teacher!"...I hear it often throughout the school day. But there are few opportunities for a classroom teacher to sit down one-on-one and share the many adventures that story-reading can offer a young mind eager to learn. A Classroom Listening Center could serve this purpose.

I teach a Pre-K class of 18 students who are 4 and 5 years old.

All are from low income "at risk" situations/environments. They are mostly English Language Learners and are an auxiliary to a Title I Elementary School population of fewer than 500 students.

My Project

A classroom Listening Center would offer opportunities for our English Language Learners to hear stories in Spanish (a language they are already familiar with) and as the year progresses, they could continue to enjoy a variety of age-level stories recorded in English.

As the expectations for beginning Kindergarten students expands, so must the skills of our young Pre-K students.

The overarching portion of Kindergarten Readiness is focused on Language and Literacy skills that would be greatly enhanced through the use of a Classroom Listening Center.
