Listen Up! We Love Reading Along With Audio Books!

My students need a set of 35 headphones, so that each student has a set of headphones to read along with audio books. Reading audio books is beneficial to struggling readers and gifted readers alike.

My Students

My second grade students are anxious to become better readers this year. They love to read along with books. They enjoy talking about the books they read with their classmates, as well. Even though our school is located in a low income, often dangerous part of the city, my students are very positive and eager to learn. There is a wide range of reading abilities in my classroom, but every student is working hard to become a better reader and a successful student. I hope that I can help them become their best by providing them with the tools that they need to achieve their goals.

My Project

Exposing all students to complex storytelling and nonfiction text is one of the benefits of reading audio books. Listening along with these books on their own personal headphones can benefit students by introducing them to books above their independent reading level.

In addition, listening along with audio books models good interpretive reading and teaches critical listening skills.

It can highlight the humor in books and introduce new vocabulary. It exposes students to genres of literature they might not ordinarily consider. Unfortunately, many school budgets don't allow for headphones to read along with these great resources.

While many students are avid readers, others struggle with reading. Reading along with audio books is beneficial to all readers!
