I teach at a small Title I school located in rural North Carolina. My school has a very large population of students who receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students come from various socioeconomic backgrounds. Few of my students come from homes that provide multiple opportunities for early literacy and exploration. Some of our students have never had the opportunity to leave our small community and have not had access to literacy or digital resources or structured learning environments. This means our school needs to provide these students with many opportunities to develop a love of learning, critical thinking skills, and a variety of reading material to challenge and intrigue them.
Our students are eager learners who love to work together, use technology, and create new things.
My Project
Our students use the Chromebooks in the media center on a daily basis Currently, our students are all working on the 32 computer in the library with no working headsets. The students must use the volume controls to play their computer with no headset attached.
Imagine the difficulty of focusing on your work with 15-24 other students all playing the sound aloud on their machines as well.
This causes disruption and distractions for our students that have difficulty focusing and attending to their individual work resulting in lower performance on their assigned tasks. These headphones will allow all students to focus and attend to work. The drying rack will allow for easy, accessible storage when not in use.
