Young children need many different literacy experiences to help them grow and develop. My classroom full of 23 teachers, ballerinas, doctors, astronauts, and presidents to-be need engaging and exciting materials to help them succeed. Currently, they face many challenges, such as learning a new language, being immersed in a new culture, and not having many literacy experiences at home.
Our current listening center books and tapes are falling apart, taped together, and in need of replacement! These students need new materials to capture their interests, excite and engage them. Many of the English language learners love to sing, but our classroom does not have any songs on tape.
We are in need of new books with CDs to go along with them. Songs, poems and repetitive text patterns help students to learn important literacy skills. All of these resources together will help to make an engaging, yet balance literacy program for these learners.
