Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the old, brown tape player and headphones you used in your elementary school listening center? That is what we had in our room this year, that is, until it broke.

My students are some of the most amazing 5 year-olds you will ever meet!

They attend a school that is failing API, all receive free or reduced lunch, and most are English Language Learners, but despite this, they prevail. They have a love of learning that I have never seen before. Each day we reach for our hopes and dreams, and they share what they want to be when they grow up. Among their dreams are authors, police officers, and veterinarians, and all tell me they will go to college.

My Project

I am requesting a CD player, sets of books on CDs, and bins to organize it all. These materials will be used every day during our independent workshop time to teach comprehension, vocabulary, listening skills, and independence. And, of course, they will build enjoyment of reading.

My students love to hear stories!

Until our current listening center broke, it was their favorite workshop activity. With your generous donations, we can bring that joy of listening to stories back to my students this year and to students for years to come.
