Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Be Kind! This is my number one rule. Reading is a priority in my classroom. I love books and love to read. I want all of my students reading at or above grade level when they leave third grade. This listening center will increase comprehension and support those who need a little extra help.
My students love to learn.
They work hard for me everyday. Many of my students come from underprivileged homes, I get to provide for them a safe place to grow, learn and discover their strengths and support each others' weaknesses. In my classroom students learn not only academics but people skills as well. I teach my kids how to care for each other. I teach them how to work with others who may not be their number one choice. I teach them how to use their words in a kind way to achieve their goals. I teach them how to celebrate successes. My students take risks and learn that sometimes you have to fall down before you find success. Our school provides an environment where children can receive support, guidance and solid academic instruction paving the way for a successful future.
My Project
My students need a listening center to utilize the cds and books I already have that match my amazing curriculum. Listening centers can be powerful tool for the developing reader. Struggling readers are provided with a platform for success as they are able to focus on comprehension as they follow along and listen to a story. Students who are proficient readers can listen to the fluency and expression of an experienced reader as they follow along. A listening center is motivating for the students and allowing me as the teacher to provide small group instruction while a group of students are actively involved processing a story together.
I have taught third grade for five years and have sets of cds to go with our stories.
I will be able to support my struggling readers by providing them with the opportunity to hear the story. This allows them to follow along and focus on comprehension. A listening center will develop stronger readers.
