Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

This is my first Donors Choose proposal. I am in my second year of teaching at Guadalupe Elementary, an amazing school in San Francisco's Excelsior neighborhood that has a dedicated faculty and a diverse population of wonderful kids. I am trying to accumulate teaching materials for 2nd grade, which is the grade I'll be teaching next year. It's a new grade and curriculum for me and I am starting from scratch to acquire teaching materials. I'm lacking a Listening Center for for my Literacy Centers. The Listening Center available through Lakeshore would enable me to have 8 students at this Literacy Center at one time. My goal is to reach ALL my 20 students so they can access text in a meaningful way. Some students are more auditorily oriented, and many are English Language Learners, so having books on tape would be very helpful in connecting them with the text to create meaning as well as hearing how words are pronounced and thereby, increasing their vocabulary. Multiple intelligences tell us kids learn in so many different ways, and as their teacher, it is my responsibility to reach and teach each and every student. Thank you for your consideration! Donors Choose is a great idea and invaluable to teachers, like myself, who want to do so much, but lack the funds to make it ALL happen.
