This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in a highly migrant area. Our student come form a very low socio-econoic environment. We have 99% free and reduced lunch and almost 80% of our student population speak another language at home. As a Media Specialist, I know that the Media Center is an integral part of the school. The media center is home to computers, books, audio/visual materials and more. I like to think of the media center as a community center for all the stakeholders of the school.

Students are actively using our labs and even reading and listening books online so having working headphones if vital to their learning process.

I strive daily to offer all students the best media experience and creating a safe and fun environment. The students develop a passion for reading and become comfortable using their libraries as they grow as independent readers.

Having a comfortable area where student can sit and use learning and reading programs in our library computer lab will lead to students wanting to grow and read on their own.

My Project

The headphones will now be available in the library computer lab for students to not only read but be able to listen to pronunciation of words. The students will be able to come in before school and during school to work on the reading programs and even read available e-books.

Our low socio-economic students, especially our English Language Learners will benefit from being able to use headphones to listen to pronunciation of words and focus on their fluency.

All computers in the library lab will be able to have their own headphones that students can use throughout the day which will help many of our student who do not have computers or headphones at home.
