Listen Up! From Audiobooks to Amazing Readers

My students need audiobooks and portable CD players to boost their reading skills individually and in small groups!

My Students

Our classroom is our home away from home. We all come together as a community for lessons and fun activities. However, our resources are limited. We are in need of tools to help meet the needs of each individual learner in our classroom.

Our students come from a wide range of cultures and families.

In our classroom, we are one big family and we are part of a larger school community. Some students struggle with reading skills, especially those students who find traditional learning activities difficult. My students need the option of fun, alternative activities and lessons to support their learning styles.

My Project

Listening to an audiobook while following along in the pages of the book makes grade-level books more accessible for struggling readers. Students who have strong comprehension in short picture books, but have trouble holding onto the story in longer texts, will greatly benefit from having these engaging stories read aloud to them. Hearing audio versions of chapter books will help them navigate longer stories that take several days to finish.

In this project we are requesting for audiobooks which will allow students to be able to listen to a storyteller read their book to them with expression and enthusiasm, teaching them what storytellers sound like - and will leave them wanting to listen and read more and more!

With these audiobooks and portable CD players, students will be able to participate in book clubs along with the rest of their peers and will not feel left out. And, with a stereo CD player, a small group of students (or the whole class!) could experience an audiobook at the same time, building a community of readers.
