Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk from their homeroom class to another class for Spanish. Students know there is no set classroom where we can post all our work. Although we may not have a main classroom, students are eager to start Spanish and learn.
Students walk into our assigned room and start speaking any Spanish words they know!
These students are filled with joy to know that their first language, for most, is being taught at school. My students have similar backgrounds-a low socioeconomic background. Most students also have outstanding family circumstances that affect their learning. Some of these circumstances vary from single-parent households, first language Spanish with no English support at home, low-income, and varying self-triggers.
My Project
We are constantly using computers in the classroom to expand our Spanish vocabulary. Students have the opportunity to currently write, and read online, but cannot speak or listen back what they are practicing. Some students get frustrated by listening to others with a high volume on their computer while speaking loudly, because they cannot concentrate on what their computer program is saying.
Headphones with microphones are key for students to succeed in learning a new language.
With these headphones, students will be able to record themselves for presentations, and use the microphones in our new online program that helps them remember vocabulary. Most importantly, they will reduce noise inside the classroom, helping them better concentrate on their language learning.
