My Students
My 4th graders are an energetic group that comes from various parts of our school district. They attend a Spanish immersion school and have been learning content through Spanish since Kindergarten. This means math, literacy, science, social studies are taught in Spanish! In third and 4th grade, students start to receive more instruction in English (namely literacy).
Students primarily come from English-dominant homes so they get to teach parents, siblings and other family members the language they are learning!
Students will start this school year with not only a new teacher but also a new building! Our school is in the first phase of moving to a new building this year and will not be complete until next summer. I am excited to start the year with my new students and to provide a loving, stable, fun and engaging environment where students can be themselves and learn a lot!
My Project
The headphones in my project will allow students to use the Chromebooks we have access to to listen to fluent reading in both English and Spanish. Students will also use the headphones to practice sight words and power words at their reading levels to become more proficient readers per the goals we have set.
The headphones with microphones will be used to listen to my emerging readers as they practice reading on their own after hearing a book read to them.
This tool will allow me to maximize my support to students that need more support to get closer to grade-level reading.
The flashlights are for a new reading tradition we will start of Flashlight Fridays! This will maintain excitement around reading and be a fun way to end our academic week.
