Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

Who doesn't love listening to a great story? I would love to have a listening center in my classroom for students to enjoy listening to great stories on tape. It provides another interactive way to enjoy reading! I teach second grade in a Chicago Public School. I have 27 students and all have a wide variety of special learning needs. A listening center would be a great reading activity for a small group of students, while I am working with another small group of students on reading. I want my students listening to and learning from high quality literature as much as possible. While all my students would benefit from a listening center, I have several students who are not able to read independently and this would give them extra practice listening to stories on tape and following along with the words in the books. It also exposes them to more literature than I can find time to read to them. Currently, we have no books on tape for the listening center or a table to house our tape recorder and headphones. Please help give the gift and joy of reading to my students!
