The children in our classroom are the youngest learners and have special needs. They need innovative and motivating materials to help engage and meet their special educational goals.
“Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning.” -Mr. Rogers
The needs in my range from autism to language delays, developmental delays, physical challenges and other difficulties that effect their learning. I have two class sessions servicing up to 15 students in each. It is an integrated preschool where typically developing children serve as role models. They come to school excited to learn. My students learn best through play and activities that are new and exciting. Our school is a public school in the community. There are three special education preschool classrooms as well as a full range of special needs classes. The school serves children from grades K-6 in general education classes.
My Project
These materials will make a huge difference in my students learning. The instruments will provide the additional tools to include all children and allow them all to be active participants in music and movement activities. Children, especially preschool children, are not meant to sit quietly. They are made to move and play and learn. The cart will help us not only be organized, but will serve as a teaching tool be allowing us to see song lyrics and display work. We will all become responsible members of the classroom. Music will also help facilitate improved listening skills and enhance self expression.
