My Students
There are roughly 400 students in attendance in our magnet school in the inner city school district of New Haven, CT. All of our students qualify for free lunch. Despite the many hardships some are facing, our students come to school ready and eager to learn. Our magnet theme allows students to explore STEM professions through stimulating and challenging programs. The technology lab is a safe place which fosters creativity, communication, and collaboration.
Our students love technology and often times, the technology lab is a place where those students who may struggle academically, excel and participate in hands-on activities.
In addition, it is also a place where gifted students can be challenged to continue to think outside of the box to develop critical thinking skills that will help them to prepare for 21st century life and careers.
My Project
I am requesting headphones for my students to use in the technology lab. One of the great benefits of technology is that it allows for students to receive individualized learning and personalized instruction. There are so many web-based programs available that differentiate instruction in order to meet the individual needs of the learner. Currently, we are utilizing many of these programs in the technology lab but there are not enough working headphones for every student.
By donating to this project, you will help our students to receive the personalized instruction that they need to succeed.
Distractions make it very difficult to concentrate, but the use of headphones help students keep their attention on the activity or presentation. Using multimedia presentations and language learning applications can be extremely beneficial for struggling learners in the classroom. Many students are visual or auditory learners which means they would greatly benefit from instructional videos to provide reinforcement. If there were enough pairs of headphones for each student in the classroom, it would improve and increase student attention and focus which would ultimately lead to an increase in their academic achievement.
