My Students

My second-grade scholars come from different socioeconomic backgrounds. They range between the ages of 7 and 8 years old and receive their education in an urban environment with a population of 43.4% Black, Non-Hispanic, 26.5% Hispanic, 24.4% White, Non-Hispanic, and 4.6% Multiracial. My school participates in the Federal Free School Lunch program where 100% of our scholars receive a nutritional meal every day. They come to school despite what they are going through and work hard to accomplish a set goal.

We are also one of few STEM schools in the school district that provides all of our scholars with an equal opportunity for innovation, engineering and design principles, and stewardship within the context of cross-curricular, authentic problem-based learning units.

My Project

My second-grade scholars need headphones to be able to focus on the programs they are using to learn the targeted content of the day. Our students are fortunate to have a 1:1 ratio with iPads but can get extremely noisy and things just go haywire.

It’s nice to be able to listen to instruction, music, and/or a book without getting all tangled up in a mess of cords or even the cords breaking and being exposed to live wires.

Oh, how shocking that can be! My scholars will use these materials to explore the speaking and listening standard when the program requires recording their voices. The headphones will be used throughout the day as we read, speak, and write while learning together.

Listen to me, they will be able to use them during our whole group and small group time. Your generous donation to our project will improve our target language building a stronger reader and writer. This will change our students' lives for the better. They will love listening to our target language programs and feel successful all while being wired---less!
