My Students
I am the proud teacher of 28 school-loving kindergarten students. Each morning they arrive eager to start their day and are abuzz with the new things that we are going to learn. There is a love of learning from the moment they arrive!
My school is located in a multicultural area of Philadelphia.
A percentage of students are learning to speak English for the first time. It is a low-income area of the city and students often come to school with little to no resources provided by the school district. However, my students never see that as a barrier to their learning and are always motivated to do their best.
My Project
Learning to read is one of the best parts of coming to Kindergarten and it requires a lot of practice. These books and whisper phones will give my students the much needed practice they need to learn to read.
These books and whisper phones are a great way for students to hear themselves reading!
They provide a winning combination for early readers. Students can practice reading and hear exactly what they are saying as they read. This reinforces whether the word is right or not and builds excitement as students hear themselves reading more and more.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
