Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

As a fairly new teacher, I have been doing my best at keeping up with the best methods of teaching for my students. I frequently talk to other teachers and exchange ideas in how to best reach all students. This is my second year as a 2nd grade teacher and I couldn\'t be happier! I work at a low income school with primarily bilingual students. I love my job and look forward to it each day. And every year I want to add more to my room that will benefit my students and keep them motivated to learn. This coming year I would like to purchase a listening center for my classroom. I\'ve read so much about fluency and the benefits students get from listening to a speaker read a story as well as being able to record themselves while reading. It would be especially helpful for my struggling readers who need the extra support. It would give them multiple opportunities to hear stories read time and time again. I plan to begin using a listening center as a part of my center/guided reading program where all students would have access to it throughout each day. They would have the opportunity to listen to different stories being read fluently while following along with the book. A listening center would allow students to work independently and in groups to improve their fluency development. While some students work in the center, I would be able to work with others in small groups for guided instruction. Thank you in advance for considering this proposal.
