Are you a kinesthetic learner? My students with a moderate intellectual disability learn best through gross motor movement. What better way to get our bodies moving than through music!
All of my students are boys.
Their ages are from 7 years old up to 11 years old. They have a moderate intellectual disability which means they function developmentally around a 4 year old level. Several of them have Autism and one of them has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Our school is a special needs school that serves children ages 3-21 from our county. My boys are very active and have a lot of energy. They love music and learning.
My Project
If we had an iPod, case and speaker system, my students would be able to learn a variety of concepts through listening and moving to music. Our class has several educational Cd's that could be downloaded onto our iPod. My students could learn numbers, the alphabet, rhyming words, nursery rhymes, gross motor movements and several more concepts through the use of music.
This grant will impact my students in a positive and memorable way.
Many people are kinesthetic learners but do they face similar challenges as my students? This grant will give my students an opportunity to learn basic concepts through music and movement.
