Listen, Learn, and Build Better Readers!

My students need 4 individual cassette and CD players to participate in a listening center.

My Students

Do you remember listening to books on tape or records when you were young? Listening to good models of reading boost reading vocabulary and fluency. Students are able to hear proper pacing and different uses of expression in reading when listening on tape.

I teach 18 eager to learn 1st graders in a Title 1 school with a majority of students who are on free and reduced lunch.

My school serves children in Pre-K through 2nd grade. Many students have a very limited amount of books at home if any. Some of the students I teach are English Language Learners. My students enjoy learning to read and greatly look forward to school each day. They are motivated and excited about literacy.

My Project

I am requesting 4 individual student CD players with headphones and 4 individual student cassette players with headphones. My current tape player will only play tapes and rarely works properly. The new individual student tape players and CD players would allow my students access to my books on tape and CD. The stories would be used during centers time. Students will be able to grow in vocabulary and fluency. They are a great benefit to students learning English also. These materials will also impact students for years to come.

Make a difference in our classroom.

Help my provide my students with the proper tools for my listening center. Allow them to listen to stories that they will not only enjoy but learn from. Boost our fluency, vocabulary, and love for reading. Thank you for considering my project. I look forward to implementing it soon.
