We've focused on using the materials to support phonemic awareness, phonics, and decoding through hands-on activities. One memorable moment was during a small-group phonics lesson, where students used tactile sound chips and blending boards to build and decode words. The kids loved the interactive nature of the activities, and the teachers were able to immediately implement these strategies in their own classrooms. It's been amazing to see how quickly they adapted and began to use the resources effectively.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, their reactions were filled with excitement and curiosity! Many of them were eager to dive in and asked if they could use the tools every day. It has really really helped engage them—especially those who thrive with hands-on learning. \r\n\r\nOur next steps involve supporting teachers as they use these manipulatives to provide targeted, small-group instruction based on beginning-of-year assessment data. Now that they've seen the impact of hands-on, multisensory tools in boosting student engagement and foundational literacy skills, we're focusing on helping them extend this work into decoding, fluency, and application in connected text. These materials are now part of our core instructional toolkit, and it's exciting to see teachers confidently reintroduce them with a new group of students to ensure every child gets the support they need to grow as readers.","fullyFundedDate":1746468399055,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-tools-for-growing-strong-reader/9243907/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Tools for Growing Strong Readers!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Carbine","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9777539"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_17455","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":295,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":34,"percentWhite":47,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 2","studentTeacherRatio":"13.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":59.8,"schoolId":17455,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about W.A.
