My students need 7 Audiobooks because they model good interpretive reading, teach critical listening, and introduce new genres and vocabulary for all students.
A good book can open our world and minds, yet many of my students are unable to independently read these higher level books. Audiobooks have proved successful in providing a way for these students to access literature and enjoy books. Help these struggling readers by providing them with audio books
I love my very diverse group of 6th graders that represent a multitude of cultures.
Their families struggle financially to provide the very basics of food, clothing, and shelter. These students attend their neighborhood public school in California. My students beg me for silent reading time each day; proving that they do have the desire to read even if they do not have grade level abilities. Many of my students are reading at least two grade levels behind and because of this they can not access high quality literature.
My Project
Good, well written books open our minds in so many ways. So many of my students are reading simple stories because of their low reading ability. Audio books can provide a whole new world for these students by providing them access to good literature. Audio books are proved to help struggling and second language learners become better readers. I desire for my students to be exposed to good literature so that they might see that there is so much to strive for beyond their circumstances. I do not want them to continue to be a part of the culture of poverty. They can have more and books are one component of helping them get there.
I want my students to move beyond their circumstances.
I believe that giving them access to good literature, through Audiobooks, will help them on their journey of becoming productive citizens and life long learners. Thank you.
