My Students

My students make up about 20% of the EL (English Learners) elementary population in my district. This EL population spans the grade levels kindergarten to fifth grade, and their language proficiency also varies from "Entering" to "Expanding." Some of these students also have special needs.

My students represent diverse cultures from around the world including India, Vietnam, South Korea, China, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brazil and many more.

They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their classrooms.

My Project

My students have been successfully learning English with the Oxford Picture Dictionaries for Kids. We have been fortunate enough, through Title III funding, to purchase the dictionaries for our elementary students across the district. However, there was not enough money to purchase other components of the program.

The Oxford Picture Dictionary Content Areas for Kids Audio CD is a vital component to this program as it targets the listening domain of language acquisition.

The Audio CD contain tracks that tell a story and gives a dialogue for each topic which helps support student comprehension, use of vocabulary in context, and grammatical structures. All of these are necessary elements for learning the English language.

With additional headphones, the CDs can be placed in a center during Station Rotation. This will give students multiple opportunities to listen and complete various tasks for independent work and partner practice.
