This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Did you know that music can help children develop early language skills? Listening to music helps kids begin to recognize words and sounds. We need music to improve reading skills and language. Listening to books and songs will help my students learn. I want to create a favorite playlist!

My students are a wonderful group of learners.

I love reading to my students and they enjoy it so much often they want to hear the same story again and again. These young five-year-olds are super active and ready to work independently during center time. They are curious about everything as they begin to interact with each other and develop social, language and literacy skills. But they need many engaging activities that focus on enriching their language development as the majority are second language learners. Songs are great for learning language and rhyme. My students will benefit from listening to stories and singing along to Raffi.

My Project

My students will have the opportunity of listening to many great stories as they learn a new language. I want to be able to create a favorite playlist just for my students. It is amazing what the power of music can do. My combination class of Transitional Kinder and Kindergarten students will love to listen to their favorite stories and play them again and again. We have a listening center that needs enhancing with delightful new stories like, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" a favorite all time story. Plus just dancing to "The Hokey Pokey" teaches kids to follow directions and it provides good exercise too! Practically any song can offer a teachable moment if you make it one.

My students enjoy music and good stories.

We need your support to have all these incredible books and music. The more you listen, dance, sing and play with kids the more they'll learn. My TK and Kinder kids love to listen and learn. We can make a difference and a positive impact on our students. I know the support from one another and our communities is what will make it happen. Let's turn up the volume and help change the cycle of illiteracy. We can all help.
