My students need quality, classic children's books to listen to and read during the independent application of Listening to Reading.

My Students

My favorite thing to do as a child was curl up and get lost in a good book. My class this year is very diverse and each student has a specific set of learning needs. By providing a quality listening library as diverse as my class, I can begin to spark that love of reading early on.

I have a very diverse class this year.

We are a Title One school, which means that most of our students come from economically disadvantaged homes. Our class is made up of many African American students, Muslim, Chinese, Hispanic, and Caucasian. My class is very bright in the background knowledge they come with, however many of them do not yet possess the knowledge they need to be successful in first grade. I have several students who are still learning letters, letter sounds, as well as counting numbers. I even have a few students who are still learning English as their second language! Though they present some challenges, they are very excited to learn and give their best. They are very happy to be at school and I can see that on their faces each morning.

My Project

These resources will hopefully be the spark that many of my students need to find a book they love. I have many students who are learning the foundations of reading, all the way to holding a book and turning pages independently. With a listening library, everyone can read! Students who struggle with sight words and reading basics can still listen, follow along, and get lost in the great illustrations.

I hope to ignite a love of reading as early as possible so that these students can find successes in their education.

I want to close the learning gap and help these children as much as possible. Books are wonderful and should be enjoyed by everyone, no matter their skill level.
