This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

One word to describe my students: RESILIENT! My special needs students have specific learning and communication disabilities and most of them are also English Language Learners.

Their families have immigrated from Mexico, Central America, and the Carribbean seeking a better life for their children.

As their teacher I want nothing more than for them to succeed and become great readers and writers of English. They are surely on their way, but they need the resouces to help them get there!

My Project

As English Language Learners with learning disabilities my students benefit from listening to high interest books on CD as they follow along in the text.

The portable CD players will allow individual students to sit comfortably in their reading caves and enjoy listening to stories at their own pace.

Special needs students want to experience the joy of reading the same stories as their non disabled peers. Access to audio books and graphic novels gives them the opportunity to do so. It improves their ability to read and understand English and literature and plants the seeds to be life long readers.
