This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I can't bring the children to the Los Angeles Zoo, but I can bring the zoo to the classroom. I want the children to learn about a wide variety of animals and their habitats. We spend months learning about Ocean, Savannah, Farm and Forrest animals and these things would help their minds expand.

My classroom is filled with 25 of the biggest smiles with little five and six year olds.

My students are hard working, fun, creative, brilliant kindergartners, who try so hard to do so well. My students are English language learners and socioeconomically disadvantaged. This school is a 100% free lunch school. The children are growing up in hard times. The standards of education are so much higher than when we were in school, and yet their opportunities are more limited than ours.

My Project

One field trip a year ( we went to the History Museum), one computer in the classroom and many students do not have the Internet at home, so my students are very limited in their discovery of animals. My students need a variety of Zoobooks, Animal Puzzles and Blocks to help with our Science and Englsh Language Development. The children will read the Zoobooks with their big buddies and with their parents. Each child will have their first project to do on an assigned animal. They will use the Zoobooks as the main resource. The DVD player is very old and it is used for the science DVDs we have. Our DVD player currently is constantly skipping and ruining our DVDs. We try to watch an educational video and only get half way through it. I would also like to include some animal puzzles and animal art material to go along with our studies. We have 2 puzzles in our classroom now. So the puzzles will show the habitats and be used during Independent Working Time.

My students appreciate everything they are given and our class is given.

They know it is a gift from people who care about them. Helping my students teaches them to help others. Also learning about animals will help teach the children why we protect the environment and why animals are important too.
