Lion King Musical Experience

My students need 8 wireless headset mics for a student directed Lion King Musical performance.

My Students

Gustavo Dudamel (the great young Venezuelan conductor of the L.A. Symphony who had his beginnings in "El Sistema"), said, "Music saved my life and has saved the lives of thousands of at risk children in Venezuela...like food, like health care, like education, MUSIC must be the right of every person."

Most of my students at Aycock, like Dudamel come from POVERTY but they are RICH in talent, hope and academic possibility.

Performing arts in a public school setting have been a realistic "key" to unlocking the dreams and possibilities for so many who are disadvantaged and I envision the LION KING MUSICAL EXPERIENCE helping us liberate another generation of students to achieve their academic goals and dreams.

My Project

The magic of musical theater is that there's a place for everyone! Student singers, actors, dancers, builders, artists, costume and makeup designers and sound engineers all come together in a beautiful synergy to create the final product. The addition of these microphones will not only bridge a gap in our musical production (the gap being that our young voices are not strong enough on their own to project over the orchestral accompaniment track) but these microphones will also provide yet another learning opportunity as I teach students how to operate and care for them. After this production, our school will use these microphones in various concert and school wide assembly settings.

Our school mission is: "Educating EVERY child with the HEART of a LION." To that end I believe these microphones will help us launch a mission driven musical theater process and final production through which our students will learn about creative, collaborative processes.

I think that this will make our students and greater community PROUD.
