My Students

I teach at a Title I School in Virginia Beach. I have eighteen wonderful first grade students in my class. They are busy, eager to learn, and always on the go! They are a sweet class that I love! Every day we stay busy taking advantage of every single minute that we have together!

My students love working together in small groups and participating in hands-on, student-centered, problem solving activities.

I want my students to be successful creators, builders, thinkers and problem solvers! What better way to encourage this than by providing the best learning environment possible for their eager minds to grow!

My Project

One big challenge in my classroom is handwriting. The students know their letters, know their letter sounds, and know how to write them, but writing neatly and properly requires a lot of practice and work. Although we use technology almost every day, it is still imperative that I show my students that neat handwriting - whether we are working on language arts or math - can go a long way.

Many students come into the classroom with poor pencil grip and/or poor fine motor skills.

These magnetic writing pages will allow me to model letter and number placement when writing. I can also use these pages when we generate topic sentences for research writing or work on story problems in math. By providing my students with explicit writing support through modeling, it is my hope that their handwriting will become neater and easier to read through practice.
