Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school was established in 1928 and has been serving a small community for many generations. It is my 24th year teaching, and I had an awesome experience of teaching my former student's daughter in my class a few years ago. My current aide is also my former kindergarten student.
My school is a Title I school, where a lot of my students qualify for the reduced-price or free lunch program.
Many students come from diverse cultural backgrounds. There are 16 different languages spoken at my school. Most are English Language Learners, speaking English as their second language.
It's exciting to teach students who are able to do so much on their own - collaborating, researching, and working independently to be innovators!
My Project
All this time since the school started in the fall of 2020, we have been doing distance learning using zoom. With only two months left in school, we’re finally going back to school in-person. I’ve been noticing how many of my students need to have better handwriting, printing neatly touching the lines. I think it’s important to develop neat printing in earlier grades.
I would like to use these lined dry-erase boards to practice printing with my 2nd-grade students while keeping a safe distance.
I would love to introduce cursive writing at the end of 2nd grade as well.
Thank you so much for your consideration in supporting this project!
