My students need another set of lockers to keep their belongings. We have enough for 15 students and would love this new set to allow 5 more children their own space.
My students are in kindergarten and they are a very loving group. They have learned to share and respect each other's things. I hope to have lockers to allow each student the sense of ownership. I want them to have space for their own coats, lunch boxes etc.
Our school is a small school which includes Pre-K through grade 5.
We have two of each grade, with the exception of pre-k. Our school is not considered Title One, so we do not get the extra funding that most of our county gets. We have many students that fall in the poverty guideline status. Without the extra funding it makes it difficult to purchase the extra items that we really need. A lot of the supplies we use in our classroom comes out of our own money, so large items get put off. The students being able to have their own locker will allow them to feel more independent and grown up. They will be so excited to show ownership of something. They keep their coats, lunch boxes, journals, crayon boxes and any personal items they have in the locker. When my students share a locker these items get mixed up, even lost and it upsets them, because many can't afford to replace the items. I hope to see each of them with their own locker. I now have 15 lockers and 21 students.
My Project
My students will learn to be proud of their own space and respect their property. With 21 students sharing 15 lockers things are so crowded and end up on the floor, lost or dirty. Having their own space will allow each student the responsibility of maintaining their space and the learning how to keep it clean and tidy. The locker holds their coats, lunchbox, journal, pencil box and any personal items they have at school. By having their own space, I plan to teach the children to take responsibility for their things. They will be responsible for their coats being hung up, and not stuffed in the space. They will learn each item has its own place. I feel organizational skills would be a great skill to carry on to first grade and having their own locker is an excellent place to start. Each locker will be labeled with their own name tag to make it more personal. They love to see their name and it will make it more special to them. Thank you for any consideration.
This project will make a difference to the students because it will show ownership and teach responsibility.
It will make them feel proud to have their own space and be able to be organized. The students will be so appreciative to have these lockers!
