My students are special because they are multicultural. My students are special because some can hear and some cannot. My students are special because some speak another language at home. My students are special because they are kind, creative, and want to learn.
I work in an urban school in the heart of New Orleans.
Some students come from the neighborhood while others come via bus. My school aims to give any child in New Orleans the opportunity to have a quality arts education.
My Project
In this project, I am asking for materials to strengthen my students' budding math skills by integrating visual art. We will do two types of activities with these materials: we will paint our own story problems and create our own scrabble squares.
My students have already become more successful and engaged in math when I integrated art earlier this school year, so I know this project will only further encourage that.
The items I have requested to physically make the art projects are: paint aprons, art tissue, white drawing paper, paint brushes and paint trays. The items that will help us practice our math skills and gain inspiration for our projects are: Mission Addition and Subtraction Action books, 3 in a Cube Dice, Learning Wrap-Ups Keys for Addition and Subtraction, Make 7 game, Monkey Math game, 10 to the Top game, Addition Flashcards, Robbin Eggs, Step-by-Step Number Line, Math Mat, the Math Addition Trekker, and the Scramble Squares. The Califone Headphones will allow students to use the Zearn math program that will also allow students to practice math skills and differentiate their learning.
