My students need a bigger light table and magna-tiles to explore properties of light and to construct unique structures to using these magnetic building toys.
Carl Sagan said, "Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere." We're heading into a future that will go nowhere if we continue to place adult-like expectations on them. Help our kids lead us into the unknown by allowing them to use their imagination!
Have you ever watched a child become fascinated with a puddle of water created by rain from the previous day?
Watched them step, jump, create, manipulate, and explore? Seen the curiosity of how the world works inspired by a simple puddle? The world around them is a learning environment My students learn through play.Children can learn so much by simply playing. Through play, they're socializing, exploring, experimenting, making mistakes, learning, problem-solving and applying new ideas. The goal of this project is for my students to explore architecture using magna-tiles on the light table. Our students will discover and observe color, architecture and design. They will observe patterns and symmetry. These patterns and symmetry will then transfer into a more artistic form as they will utilize their journals and explore shapes and patterns through art.
My Project
The magna-tiles will be the bricks for their buildings. These unique blocks will allow our students to use their minds creatively to build structures that are not seen in our everyday lives. The light table will be the foundation of their construction site. The larger light table will allow students to create more structures in one period of play centers and will also allow for them to discover the properties of light and color.After our builders are done, they will become artists and will sketch their buildings into their journals. They will add more to their ideas by through art.
The items I am requesting will be utilized in the light table and art center where students can explore art, science, nature and various other themes through light.They can explore shadows, dimensions, and colors via the new light table.
Through these new additions, we're hoping implement more STEAM friendly activities for our students to engage in and explore in a learning environment more suited for young learners.
