This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

This project is led by three students: Jose, Diego, and Rudy. These boys are curious, bright, and hard working. They are a group for our school science fair and need materials to complete their project!

As members of a Title 1 school, acquiring funding for science fair supplies from family and community members can be a challenge. I believe that no student should be turned away from doing a science fair project they are interested in, which is why I encouraged them to do what real scientists do, write a grant for funding! They were excited by the opportunity and started working on it right away.

These students will get the fantastic opportunity to hone their collaboration skills in an authentic setting while working together on the science fair. Group work is an essential skill in the modern workforce.

Academically, they will gain firsthand experience in the entire process experimental design, testing, and communication. They are going to be presenting their experiment at the school science fair, which will give them the chance to practice organizing data and other information in a visually appealing way, as well as practice public speaking skills when they need to explain their project to their peers and the fair judges.

In Their Own Words

Our idea of our project is to put the three different flash lights in different environments. We are going to turn the lights on with new batteries and put them in different environments like in a fridge, under a heat lamp, and in a normal temperature room. With the data we collect we can see where batteries have more lifespan.

Our teacher is going to help us by answering questions we have, also she can encourage us to make are project better. She can also help us if we get stuck on something. She can also give us advice and tell us if we need to improve on something. We are going to be actually doing the project though, which is exciting and fun to do. Before we didn't know that real scientists ask for money so its like we are doing the real thing.

It's important to us because we are trying to win the science fair because we haven't won before. Its important to our community because we want to make it to district and win. It will help the community by informing them where batteries run out faster so they can save money.
