Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This literacy-based project will empower bilingual students to develop their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through the exciting process of creating and performing original plays. Students will work in collaborative groups to brainstorm ideas, write bilingual scripts in English and Spanish, and bring their stories to life through creative performances.
By engaging in storytelling and theater, students will expand their vocabulary, improve fluency, and build confidence in both languages.
To support this project, I am requesting wireless microphones, stickers, slime, Legos, a rolling cart, and a laminator. The wireless microphones will allow students to project their voices during performances, helping them practice pronunciation and expression. Stickers and slime will serve as fun and motivating prizes to reward participation, teamwork, and creativity. Legos will be used for students to build models of their settings or characters, supporting their understanding of story structure and sequence through hands-on learning.
A rolling cart will help keep all materials organized and easily accessible as students rotate between writing, designing, and rehearsal stations. The laminator will allow us to preserve student scripts, vocabulary word banks, and reflection sheets—making their work feel official and allowing for continued practice and celebration of their efforts.
Through this project, students will participate in a full creative process: writing, designing, rehearsing, and performing. They’ll gain valuable experience in collaborative learning, public speaking, and storytelling. Most importantly, they will have fun while strengthening their bilingual literacy skills in meaningful and memorable ways.
