This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a very diverse group of second grade students eager to make a difference in the world! They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They are on the road to becoming strong, independent people that will inspire others and change the world.

My second graders are enthusiastic hard workers in a California Distinguished STEM Magnet School.

Our school is located in a low-income area. It is 100% Title I and all students qualify for free lunch.

However, because of limited resources, not all classrooms are equipped with enough supplies to meet the needs of the students.

My Project

The Apple AirPods and the Document Camera will allow me to bring engaging and dynamic virtual lessons to my students' homes, enhancing their virtual learning. With those items they will be able to see and listen to the stories: Save the Ocean, Save the Bees, and Save the Arctic, during our virtual science lessons. By reading Everyday Superheroes: Women in STEM Careers, I will be able to inspire my students to start dreaming of their own science career while taking action to save the ecosystems around us.

With these materials my students will learn about extraordinary scientists and what they are doing to positively impact the world.

I want to teach conservation to my second graders because it is important to be concerned about the welfare of their environment and the world they live in. I will also be able to incorporate the IF/THEN Collection to my science lessons as we learn about Arctic Conservation.

Even though my students will not be physically in our classroom, the materials will help my lessons be more effective and impactful.
