This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We're excited to offer our school a first-of-its-kind elective dedicated to video content creation beginning in the 2024-25 school year. To provide hands-on experience, we're asking for support from donors to fund a powerful video editing workstation that can allow our students to create their content on campus, with the support of their teacher.

An in-class video edition workstation is critical to students enrolled in the course who will be responsible for producing and streaming our school's daily morning announcements, creating videos to support and promote clubs, athletics, and extracurricular activities, and even making short student films!

The computer platform that was selected for this project has a large hard drive to store large video files, a discrete video card that makes rendering projects take minutes instead of hours, and, unlike a laptop, is less fragile, easier to maintain and repair, and has components that can be upgraded, extending its useful life for many years. Students will be able to run industry-leading production software such as Blackmagic's DaVinci Resolve video editing suite, and the Reaper Digital Audio Workstation.

Video content creation is one of the fastest-growing career opportunities in the world. Students consume hours of content across a variety of interests and subjects and many are curious as to where to begin their own creative journey using this powerful communication medium.

In this course, students will learn about the various aspects of video content creation including, lighting, sound engineering, camera techniques, and how to manage and market a content channel on digital platforms.

Additionally, students will receive guidance from invited speakers who have had success in the industry as well as found ways to healthily manage the stresses involved with creating content for a mass audience.
