We are a fully public elementary school with an extremely unique population of children as we serve students with language-based learning differences such as dyslexia. This means that many students who come to our school are struggling to read or cannot read at all. We service these children by offering a different type of education, a multi-sensory, whole body approach and intensive reading interventions. This will be our second year in operation! The success of the first year brings tears to our parents' and teachers' eyes!
After years of struggling with reading, these children are finally reading!
My Project
Students will be utilizing green screen technology to create and tell digital stories. If using a green screen wasn't cool enough, the characters within these stories will be ROBOTS!
This project will foster the development of executive functioning skills, problem-solving skills, collaboration and communication skills.
Additionally, students will be utilizing literary skills and displaying understanding through the retelling a story; skills include comprehension, vocabulary, and sequencing. Students will be able to select any story of their choosing; however, students will be encouraged to select a book with a central theme of self-confidence, inspiration, and / or motivation. After selecting a story that resonates with the group, students will program their Spheros (robots) to tell the story. Students will be required to apply previous learnings with the robots (angles, speed, direction, variables, functions) in order to be successful in completing this project. Scene changes will be made using green screen technology.
