This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are changing communities and it feels so good. In our community students struggle with content, however they have tasted success and they like it! Our school is a turnaround campus that recently received a B rating and five academic distinctions that we are so proud to celebrate. It brings my heart joy to watch them work toward their academic goals with such vigor. They are growing and I do not want it to stop. I have always worked with students from at risk communities and I find fulfillment in contributing towards positively altering their academic trajectory. With ten years of teaching experience, I have learned to embrace learning styles and tactics that allow all of my student’s opportunities to be successful. As we grow, I am learning that our parents want and need opportunities to understand the changing academic landscape that students are facing daily.
My Project
We are launching an after-school club based on all of the fun we are having creating content. My students come from low socio-economic backgrounds. 100% of my students receive special needs services and receive free or reduced lunch.

Ryan’s Toy Review inspires the kids. I am constantly exposing the children to "Kid CEOs" and they beginning to understand the beauty of creating something great from little to nothing. With new goals comes the need for extra equipment and a few new items. The ipads and accessories are user friendly yet powerful enough to create great content. We are creating our own channel after school and we are learning new skills. I feel confident introducing them to more sophisticated software because of their performances in class with our school related software. The students will choose a kid-friendly topic to present. It is my hope that my students develop life long skills that will provide opportunities for them to prosper. I want my students to understand how to create opportunities for themselves with innovation and creativity as well as S.T.E.M. It is my mission to find opportunities that can change their lives for the better. We can only have so many lemonade stands. These students need real options. With my guidance and their parent’s permission, we will find the topic that speaks to them and use social media to grow a following.
